PDP-7

The PDP 7 is a minicomputer which has been produced by the company Digital Equipment Corporation ( DEC). Introduced in 1965, it was the first computer that used DECs flip- chip technology. At a price of 72,000 U.S. dollars, this computer was very cheap for its computing power. The PDP - 7 has a word length of 18 bits, the instruction set is similar to the processors PDP -4 and PDP -9.

In 1969, the computer scientist Ken Thompson wrote the first Unix system in assembly language for a PDP -7 processor, which was then called in allusion to the operating system Multics jest Unics. It should be the operating system for the computer game Space Space Travel will which required a graphics output to represent the motion of the planets.

A few PDP -7 are still in good working condition, and there is a restoration project in the Norwegian capital Oslo.
