The influence of the Bennett Dam

Erected in the late 1960s by BC Hydro at the headwaters of the Peace River in British Columbia W. - A. - C. Bennett Dam led to water fluctuations, which later by the construction of three weirs almost to the level before the establishment could be brought of the dam.

Furthermore, there are allegations that the dam would reduce the annual ice dams caused by spring tides, but this could not be proved. Based on the investigation of the sediments could prove the spring floods of the last 300 years: While there were many flash floods early last century, the number had dropped to the middle of the last century (ie before the construction of the dam ds ). Between 1975 and 1995 there was even no spring tides, during 1996 and 1997 which occurred again. However, there have been 1705-1786 and 1813-1839 no spring tides. The custom built studies on this issue, these allegations not proven. It merely found that there was the beginning of last century, a wet period during the dry period was the middle of the last century. Although these facts were established, the guilt of the dam in this development could not be proved. Overall, the development is in the light of climate change quite well. Also, on these facts, the BC Hydro and the local Indians arguing in a process.
