Peach County, Georgia

The Peach County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Fort Valley.

Geography

The County is located a few kilometers north-west of the geographic center of Georgia and has an area of 392 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface, and borders clockwise to the following counties: Houston County, Macon County, Taylor County and Crawford County.

History

Peach County was formed on July 8, 1924 as the last county in Georgia from parts of Houston County and Macon County. It was named after the most widely grown fruit here, the peach.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 23 668 people in Peach County. Of these, 1,074 people lived in collective centers, the other residents living in 8,436 households and 5,997 families.
