Peak-Charles-Nationalpark

The Peak Charles National Park is a 400 km ² national park in the south of Western Australia, Australia.

Location

The park is located 140 km north-west of Esperance and 110 km south-west of Norseman. He can be reached via unpaved airfields from the Coolgardie - Esperance Highway. The road to the campground in the park is passable by normal vehicles, for all other tracks in the park you need a four wheel drive vehicle.

Park

The center of the park is the 651 m high peak Charles. Like its neighbor, the 501 m high peak Eleanora, he is made of fine, orange granite. Together they rise from an area with dry woodland, heather -covered sand plains and a system of salt lakes.

Rock climbing

Peak Charles is best known to climbers. The date of the first ascent is unknown. The first routes were committed in the 1960s, and since the 1980s the area around the Peak Charles was systematically developed for climbers. Currently (as of 2009 ) are described over 200 routes, from very easy tours to challenging climbs in the ninth Difficulty ( UIAA scale).
