Pearl onion

The Pearl Onion (Allium ampeloprasum Pearl Onion Group, Syn: Allium porrum var sectivum ) belongs to the subfamily of leek plants ( Allioideae ). It is a cultivated variety of the group Ackerl Auchs (Allium ampeloprasum ). Pearl onions reach a diameter of 15 to 35 mm and have a white to silvery skin.

The pearl onion and pickled onions look at each other, although very similar, but belong to two different botanical species.

Pearl onions were grown mainly in Germany, the Netherlands and Italy. In commercial cultivation, they play no role. From Indonesia as " prei anak " known plant could also belong to this group.
