PEC Zwolle

PEC Zwolle is a Dutch football club from the city of Zwolle, who plays in the premier league (Eredivisie). The club was founded in 1910 and in 1990 renamed to FC Zwolle, after the PEC was gone bankrupt. 1978-1985, 1986-1989 and 2002-2004 and since 2012, the club plays in the Dutch league, the Eredivisie. Since 2012, the club is called PEC Zwolle again.

History

PEC Zwolle

1928 PEC had reached the final of the KNVB Cup and played professional football since 1955. PEC was next to the Zwolsche Atletische Club ( ZAC ) and the Zwolsche Boys one of three top clubs in Zwolle. During the ZAC were attributed to the upper middle class and the Zwolsche Boys of the workers, was associated PEC by the middle class. This resulted in intense rivalries, especially between the PEC and the Zwolsche Boys, who played in the same league and the stadium was not far away. However, both clubs merged in 1969 under the name PEC Zwolle.

1977 reached the club the cup final, but lost to Twente Enschede in the extension and missed in the same season promotion to the Eredivisie by just one point. The following year, succeeded for the first time the rise and the team on first attempt in eighth place, which should remain the best placement of the club to this day. The success of this time was due to the fact that experienced players like Rinus Israël could be committed from other clubs. The funds came V.A. of the Slavenburgse bank whose director Jan Willem van der Wal President of the PEC. By 1982 the club had amassed but a debt of six million guilders and was close to financial ruin. This could only be averted by a restructuring of the new President Marten Eibrink. New, famous players came: Piet Schrijvers, Johnny Rep and Cees van Kooten. The club survived - but only briefly: 1985 rose PEC Zwolle from. Already in the following season but the team rose under coach Co Adriaanse and the players Foeke Booy again. When the club relegated again in 1989, the financial situation came to a head so that the professional club in 1990 actually went bankrupt.

FC Zwolle

After the bankruptcy of the club was refounded as FC Zwolle. Gradually the success returned and 1992/1993 missed a young team with attractive football barely promotion to the Eredivisie. The greatest talents were later top stars of large international associations: Jaap Stam (later PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United, Lazio and AC Milan ), Bert Konterman (Feyenoord and Rangers ), Johan Hansma (SC Heerenveen), Henri van der Vegt (Udinese Calcio ) and Henk Timmer (AZ Alkmaar, Ajax Amsterdam, Feyenoord Rotterdam). The climb finally succeeded in 2002, but two years later Zwolle rose again. After a very good second half of the FCZ it was only on the last day passed to the relegation zone.

In the Eerste Divisie FC Zwolle was 2004/ 05 as a favorite, but the rise secured the local rivals Heracles Almelo and Sparta Rotterdam.

At the beginning of the season 2008/ 09 the new FC Zwolle stadium was inaugurated with 10,500 seats. Today, the venue is named IJsseldeltastadion. In the season 2010/11 FC Zwolle reached the second place, but could not prevail in the relegation. The climb finally succeeded in the following season with a commanding 1st place. Thus, the club plays from the 2012/13 season again in the Eredivisie.

PEC Zwolle

On April 14, 2012 during the championship celebration was announced that the FC will be renamed back to PEC Zwolle, to tie in with the old times and the legend of the 1980s by PEC. The jerseys and club logo are largely remain so, only the lettering in the club crest is replaced by PEC Zwolle.
