Pedara
Pedara is a city in the Province of Catania in the Italian region Sicily, with 13,130 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012).
Location and data
Pedara located 20 km north of Catania on the southern slopes of Mount Etna. The inhabitants mainly work in the timber trade, tourism and the wine.
The neighboring municipalities are Nicolosi, Nicolosi, San Giovanni la Punta, Trecastagni Tremestieri Etneo and Zafferana Etnea.
History
The site was originally part of Catania. Since 1642, the community is self-employed. The town's name comes from the Latin word lapidaria (German: Quarries ). The stone to Pedara is dark and promotes the wine.
