Peder Lunde, Jr.

Peder Lunde ( born February 9, 1942) is a Norwegian sailor who was Olympic champion in 1960.

Career

The sailing regattas in the 1960 Olympic Games took place in the Gulf of Naples. For the first time in the Olympic program, the class of boat was the Flying Dutchman ( FD). Together with Bjørn Bergvall was Peder Lunde on the FD siren first Olympic champion in this class of boat. This brought him in his home country the Fearnleys olympiske a ærespris. Eight years later, at the Olympic regattas off Acapulco ( Mexico), he won the gold medal together with Per Olav Wiken in the Star class, which again bore the name Siren. Peder Lunde married the Norwegian skier Aud Hvammen.

Peder Lunde's parents Peder Lunde Senior and Vibeke Lunde who won Olympic silver in 1952 together before Helsinki ( Finland). His grandfather Eugen Lunde was in 1924 became Olympic champion in the class of boat 6mR Le Havre (France). Peder Lunde junior was the first athlete in the history of the modern Olympic Games to have won a medal in the third generation. 1972 succeeded in this series also Pál Gerevich from the fencer Dynasty Bow Gerevich, 1984 was the hockey player Andreas Keller of the third athlete to this series succeeded.
