Pedro Bank

The Pedro Bank is a coral reef located about 80 kilometers off the southern coast of Jamaica. It consists mainly of coral, the floor is covered with extensive seagrass fields.

8040 km ², which is almost the area of Jamaica, are less than 100 meters deep, a large proportion is 13 to 30 meters away from the sea surface. On the sides, the bottom drops from up to 800 meters. In the eastern part of the Pedro Cays, one of the two offshore island groups of Jamaica lie with an area of ​​around 27 hectares. It is part of the undersea Nicaragua Ridge, which extends from Nicaragua to Jamaica.

The Bank and the Cays developed in recent years become a major tourist destination. As one of the last natural areas is largely preserved intact. Large parts are protected and monitored by a ranger station in the Cays.
