Pedro de Sintra
Pedro de Sintra was a Portuguese explorer of the 15th century. On one of his trips he gave 1460/61 on the mountain range of the Sierra Leone Peninsula the name Serra Lyoa ( Portuguese for Lion Mountains), which later extended to the whole surrounding coastline.
On another expedition he reached the kingdom of Benin and Nigeria.
De Sintra to have died in 1484 in Guinea.
A report by one of his trips Da Mosto handed down by the Venetian Alvise and was first released in 1507 as part of the novamente of Fracanzano because Montalboddo published anthology Paesi retrovati.
