History
Prehistory and faster expansion in major German cities
The company was founded in Dusseldorf on 20 April 1900 by the Dutch merchants Johann Theodor Peek and Cloppenburg Adolph Heinrich Anton as " Peek et Cloppenburg GmbH". The two had previously co-founded in 1869 the still existing Peek & Cloppenburg companies in the Netherlands. Also, 1900 saw the opening of the first sale house in Düsseldorf Schadowstraße 30 A short time later opened James Cloppenburg, son of Heinrich Cloppenburg, in the Berlin Gertraudenstraße 26-27 corner Roßstraße the second house and campaigned with the slogan " Special Home for Men - and boys Confection ". Peek & Cloppenburg had with his first two stores as a novelty, the uniform size of the system in a men's clothing.
Peek & Cloppenburg after the First World War
The inclusion of women's outerwear P & C Dusseldorf in 1936 became the first clothing store for the whole family. 1952 began the great period of expansion with new buildings or renovations of numerous buildings in the former West Germany, including West Berlin. P & C since the 1990s
Starting in 1994, reinforced the house its business policy in the Netherlands and Belgium. The year 1998 was the strongest expansion of P & C with 16 store openings, including in Austria. 2001 began the expansion into Eastern Europe. In February 2008, Peek & Cloppenburg KG Vienna was founded as a center for Austria and Eastern Europe, which is designed to reflect a growth of local markets. Patrick Cloppenburg changed on 1 January 2010 in the management of Peek & Cloppenburg Dusseldorf and was his father's deputy Harro Uwe Cloppenburg. The two older sons Hendrik and John work as chief at the menswear specialists Anson's and Hendrik as a purchasing manager for the men's wear / clothing and KOB.
