Peel (fruit)

The rind of a fruit is the outer shell. You can membranous (eg when the apple or peach), leathery (like citrus fruits ) or woody (as in the nut fruits which are also called nuts because of their hard shell ) be.

Botanically, the shell may consist only of the exocarp, or the entire pericarp can grow into a bowl (as in the walnut fruit).

In and under the bowl several nutritionally important ingredients such as vitamins and trace elements are highly concentrated, so that recommended by nutritionists physiologists to eat fruit with skin, if it is suitable for consumption. On the other hand speak hygienic concerns and the possible accumulation of pesticides in the shell.
