Pegasus Airlines is a Turkish airline based in Istanbul and base at the airport Sabiha Gokcen.

History

Founding and first years

Pegasus Airlines was established in December 1989 by the Irish Aer Lingus together with the Turkish company Silkar Holding A.Ş. and Net Holding A.Ş. founded. The flight operations began in May of the following year with only two aircraft and in April was the first flight to Berlin -Tegel with a Boeing 737-400. However, due to the Gulf War, remained from the bulk of the estimated Turkey tourists.

As of 1992, the number of tourists who traveled back to the country, increased, and Pegasus Airlines was able to expand. At that time, the fleet consisted of three Boeing 737-400 and two Airbus A320. From the start, Pegasus Airlines flew by, inter alia, Germany, Austria and Switzerland to different destination airports in Turkey. In November 2005, the first scheduled flights within Turkey have been included - successively a national route network has been established. 1997 Pegasus Airlines ordered an additional 737-400 and a Boeing 737-800, and so they also became the first Turkish airline that owned the 737 Next Generation. Shortly thereafter, followed by a purchase contract for the next ten 737-800, which were also equipped from 2002 with winglets for fuel savings.

Development since 2000

Three Boeing 737-500 came in 2005 to the fleet and will be used primarily for domestic routes with low traffic.

In January 2005, took over the ESAS Holding Pegasus Airlines and sat Ali Sabancı as CEO of the airline one. Just two months later, that changed the concept of Pegasus Airlines and from a charter airline, was an airline that offers scheduled and charter flights at reasonable prices. In November 2005, Pegasus Airlines ordered twelve new Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which were supplemented in 2008 by a further twelve machines of the same type.

In 2007, Pegasus Airlines carried more passengers than any other private Turkish airline. 2008, there were 4.4 million passengers and thus remained Pegasus is the largest private airline in Turkey.

Pegasus Airlines is a member of IATA and operates with Pegasus Airlines Flight Academy a licensed educational institution for the training of pilots, flight attendants / inside and aircraft technicians. Pegasus Airlines offers charter and scheduled flights to more than 70 locations in Europe and Asia. In Germany Pegasus Airlines flies to the following airports: Erfurt, Frankfurt, Munich, Dusseldorf, Dortmund, Dresden, Zweibrücken, Berlin, Cologne, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Rostock -Laage, Leipzig, Bremen, Hannover, Nuremberg, Paderborn and Münster. Outside Germany, Pegasus Airlines flies to the following European airports: Amsterdam, Paris, London, Manchester, Birmingham, Zurich, Basel, Vienna, Brussels, Ercan, Copenhagen, Tbilisi. Within Turkey, the following airports are served: Istanbul, Izmir, Bodrum, Dalaman, North Cyprus, Konya, Antalya, Ankara, Kayseri, Adana, Hatay, Samsun, Trabzon, Elazig, Malatya, Van, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep and Mardin.

On 28 September 2009, Air Berlin and Pegasus Airlines started their cooperation. Both airlines also the websites were combined, and the Air Berlin Internet portal additional connections from Germany to Turkey, as well as routes within Turkey are now available for booking.
