Pehčevo

Pehcevo (Cyrillic Пехчево ) is a small town and a municipality in Macedonia, near the border with Bulgaria.

At this municipality also includes the villages Umlena, Ciflik, Robovo, Negrevo, Crnik and Pancharevo.

Geography

The city lies at the Pisa River, which flows into the river Bregalnica. Pehcevo located in the southeast of the country in the area Maleševo ​​, near the border with Bulgaria and is the easternmost municipality of the Republic of Macedonia.

Population

The municipality has Pehcevo according to the census of 2002 5517 inhabitants, of whom 4737 are Macedonians 357 Turks, 390 Roma, 12 Serbs and 21 other minorities.

Culture

East of Pehcevo are the mountain Bukovik and Kadiica. The mountain Bukovik is rich with iron deposits and other valuable minerals. Hillside Bukovik is an iron mine.

Near Pehcevo in about 2.5 km away, is the famous archaeological site and the monastery Sveta Petka. Pehcevo is famous for its cheese ( Malesevsko sirenje ).
