Peillac

Peillac ( breton. Paolieg ) is a commune with 1849 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Morbihan in the Brittany region. It belongs to the community association Communauté de communes du Pays de Redon. The inhabitants are called in French Peillacois.

Geography

Peillac located in Argoat, the inner Brittany, between the rivers Oust in the north and in the south and Arz between the municipalities of Saint - Gravé in the North West and Saint -Vincent- sur -Oust in the south east, 44 kilometers east of Vannes. The D764 runs through the community.

History

On the Cranhac, the mountain in north of the village, there are remains of a Roman entrenchment, which is 200 meters long and 7 meters wide. The part of the Oust, which borders this construction is popularly called Le Passage des Romains ( Roman road ).

Peillac was first mentioned in the 9th century for the first time.

Community partnerships

Peillac maintains community partnerships with Ile de Batz and Saint- Nazaire in Armor, the maritime Brittany, and with the Romanian town of Targu Lapus.

Attractions

In the church of Peillac there is a stone, painted statue of the Holy Sabulin ( Aubin of Angers) from the 16th century, in 1985 as a monument historique (historic monument) was Classifiable. The church itself was built in the 18th century.

1789 were still four flour mills in the municipal area, three of which were water mills. Today only the windmill Cormier (French Speierling ). It was built in 1640 and belonged to before the French Revolution the Seigneur of Cranhac. The last Seigneur of Cranhac was Louis -Joachim - Paris Potier, duc de Gesvres, who was guillotined after the process of Indulgenten on 7 July in 1794. Later the mill was one of several millers and is now in private ownership.
