Piraiki -Patraiki S. A. ( Πειραϊκή - Πατραϊκή ) was a manufacturer of textiles from Patras. Competition mostly from the Far East made ​​the company to create, so that the second largest private employer in Greece and the tenth-largest textile producer in Europe was forced to declare bankruptcy in 1996.

History

The company was founded in 1919 as Patraiki in Patras, followed in 1931 by the acquisition of contention Piraiki from Piraeus. Already in the 1950s, the company ran into difficulties that were overcome by a wave of modernization of the facilities. These included the purchase of an IBM 1401 computer and the opening of a factory in Sudan.

The company had its own design department, but also dealt with outside designers, such as TH Robsjohn - Gibbings for regional markets to address better.

1983, the majority stake of 64 % was taken over by the state, the operation was still operated privately. 1988, the textile designer Yannis Tseklenis became head of the company. Ultimately, the company could no longer operate profitably due to competition from the Far East and the market opening. In 1996, the State all grants and the company went bankrupt. The company was also involved in Wilhelm Lorch Foundation.
