Peissen

Peissen is a municipality in the district of Steinburg, in Schleswig- Holstein. The municipality consists of the villages Tipohl, Peissenerpohl and Helenenhof.

Geography and transport

Peissen is located on the main road 77 between Itzehoe and Hohenwestedt in Akrug Nature Park. The Rantzau and Bekau flow through the community.

History

Peissen is first mentioned in 1380. 1482 sold to Peter Rantzau the village to the monastery Itzehoe.

Blazon: " shared lowered from silver and gold by a diagonally left green wave beams. Above, a red eight-spoked wheel in a ring of eight green birch leaves, below a red box. "

The coat of arms of the municipality is diagonally divided by the green ribbon of the ox path that leads through the church for centuries. The wreath of birch leaves stands for the eight hooves from which Peissen arose. The wheel inside the rim refers to the agriculture and forestry, which still form the main economic activity of the municipality. The clay urn is reminiscent of the prehistoric finds on the communal land which prove that the area was already inhabited in the time of the migration.

Attractions

Before Schierwaldenrath, west of the town, the Peissener hole, a green valley among which a salt dome is a cap of limestone and gypsum. The leached by groundwater in the deep cavities collapsed with time.
