Pekah

Pekah (Hebrew פקח ) was king of the northern kingdom of Israel. The beginning of his reign is dated to the year 737 BC ( Albright ) or 740 BC ( Thiele ), while there is general agreement that he ruled until 732 BC in Samaria.

According to the Bible (2 Kings 15.27-31 ) should Pekah reigned 20 years, but this contradicts the Assyrian sources, demonstrating that Menahem 740 BC and Oshea Pekah 's successor, from 732 BC the royal office occupied.

Pekah was going through a conspiracy to power: With the help of Gilead he crashed Pekahiah was killed. Later Pekah allied with Rezin, king of Aram, against the kingdom of Judah under Ahaz to occupy its capital Jerusalem. Judah, however, was with the Assyrians under Tiglath- Pileser III. A little later rose Hoshea the son of Elah against Pekah murdered him and became his successor as king. In Assyrian inscriptions is reported, however, Tiglathpileser have landed Pekah and Hoshea determined to succeed him.
