Pekka Halonen

Pekka Halonen ( born September 23, 1865 in Lapinlahti, † December 1, 1933 in Tuusula ) was a Finnish painter. He is one of the representatives of the so-called " golden age " of Finnish art at the turn of the century. Pekka Halonen is particularly known for its most wintry landscape paintings. He is the most famous scion of the Halonen family of artists.

Life

Pekka Halonen was born on September 23, 1865 in Kuopio in eastern Finland Lapinlahti at Savo region as the son of the farmer Olli Halonen and his wife Vilhelmiina. The family lived in modest circumstances and had five sons and two daughters, Pekka Halonen was the third oldest of the children.

As the first in his family Pekka Halonen chose art as his profession and studied 1886-1890 at the Drawing School of the Finnish Art Society in Helsinki. After that he went from 1886 to 1894 to Paris, where he met and others with Paul Gauguin. 1895 married Halonen, Maija Mäkinen, from the marriage came eight children. 1898 moved with his family to the halons in southern Finland Tuusula. In the rural community north of Helsinki and the neighboring Järvenpää had become a colony of artists around the painter Eero Järnefelt, the composer Jean Sibelius and the writer Juhani Aho, a friend Halonen formed. Halosenniemi Museum

The Villa by Pekka Halonen in Tuusula is open as a museum. The large garden, the sauna, the summer cottage of his youngest daughter Kaija and the beach are part of the museum grounds. The garden made ​​the family of eight children, self catering. Also Pekka Halonen works dealing on a large scale with fruits, plants and vegetables from his garden, he painted in 1912, for example, the image " tomatoes ". The building, which was founded in 1949, sold five years after the death of his wife Majya to the community, is in original condition. The exhibition of the works of Hall Onens and his painter friends exhibits contemporary artists are added. The house also has concerts and readings. The rocks on the beach are also suitable for a small break or a picnic. The museum has information in German language.

On the other side of the main street, near his villa, the Pekka Halonen Academy of Fine Arts is located.
