Pekka Suorsa

Pekka Antero Suorsa ( born December 8, 1967 in Kajaani ) is a former Finnish ski jumper who participated from 1983 to 1990 in international competitions.

Career

Suorsa started early with the ski jumping and operating as a summer sports are tennis and football. He was given a starting place in the 1983 Finnish National A- squad and made ​​his international debut on December 30, 1983 at the Ski Jumping World Cup in the opening event of the Four Hills Tournament 1983/84 in Oberstdorf. His best result in the four competitions in which he missed scoring points at all, he reached rank 24 on the Bergiselschanze in Innsbruck. In the end he was ranked 36 overall. At the Junior World Championships in 1984, the 16 -year-old landed after two crashes only on the last rank.

Even in the following year Suorsa jumped at the Four Hills Tournament 1984/85 the world's best still behind. In the end he was after weak retail results 54th overall. At the Junior World Championships in 1985, he reached fifth place. At the beginning of the Ski Jumping World Cup 1985/1986 Suorsa surprised with a eighth place on the large hill in Thunder Bay. Only a week later he missed in Lake Placid fourth twice the podium. A few days later he won his first World Cup competition in Chamonix. Also in Oberstdorf Schattenbergschanze he succeeded at the opening event of the Four Hills Tournament 1985/86 this success.

After Suorsa achieved good results in the further jumping of the tour, he ended that ranked 19th overall. He missed a better place after a weak 51st place in Innsbruck. In February 1986, he proved in ski flying in Vikersund his good form and finished fifth. After being in second once again jumped on the podium at the season end in Lahti, he finished his best season in fifth place overall World Cup.

Together with Matti Nykänen, Ari -Pekka Nikkola and Tuomo Ylipulli he won the gold medal in the team competition. From the large hill Suorsa jumped 94.6 and 94.3 meters, level on points with Mike Arnold to sixth place. From the normal hill he took after jumps to 85.5 and 86.5 meters in the 13th Place.

At the first World Cup competition after the World Cup in Falun Suorsa stood in second on the podium again. The 1986/87 season he finished in 17th place in the World Cup overall standings.
