Pel- Air Aviation Pty Ltd (trade name: Pel- Air) is an Australian charter airline based in Mascot, at Kingsford Smith International Airport. Other hubs are located at the Brisbane International Airport, Darwin International Airport and the Navy base at Nowra on the south coast of New South Wales. The subsidiary of Regional Express Airlines is a major charter and ad hoc airlines for destinations within Australia and the Pacific Islands. An important customer is the state and are also of importance ambulance flights. Cargo charter flights are operated by its subsidiary Pel- Air Express.

History

Pel- Air Aviation was founded in 1984 and a year later began flight operations with Israel Aircraft Industries 1124 Westwind Jet. As of January 1989, the subsidiary Qwestair began scheduled flights in Western Australia. The flight operating between Perth and the mining town of Telfer was carried out with a leased Beech Super King Air 200.

1995 Newcastle Aviation, an operator of Fairchild Metro III and leased Metro II and Mitsubishi MU-2 cargo ships taken over. After the acquisition, the Metro II and MU-2 have been returned and expanded the Metro III fleet. In 1996, Pel- Air is a service contract with the Navy, the Royal Australian Navy ( RAN) and the fleet was expanded by the purchase of four Learjets. In 1997, Pel- Air II several Metro and leased them for training tasks to the RAN. These units were stationed on the air base Wagga Wagga. 2003, the Metro III were replaced by larger Beech 1900C Freighter and 2005 launched a Embraer EMB 120ER freighter fleet.

In 2005 it was announced that Pel- Air is gradually taken over by mid- 2007 by Regional Express Holding. Also in 2007, was signed with Aspen Medical is a joint venture agreement for flights for Care Flight International. The agreement includes ambulance flights from Darwin International Airport with a west wind machine. The agreement was extended in 2008 through the deployment of a further Westwind 1024II for CareFlight at Perth Airport. In June 2008, Pel- Air received the first Saab 340A freighter; the machine was previously in as a passenger aircraft for Regional Express Airlines ( REX) applications. The intention is to take over most of the REX Saab 340A in the coming years.

The Brasilia and Saab 340 ( also formerly Metro III) were converted to freighters, while some West Wind and Learjet of the Royal Australian Navy for training flights, and other tasks, for example as a target tug for attack simulations are used.
