Peleg Coffin, Jr.

Peleg Coffin, Jr. ( born November 3, 1756 in Nantucket, Massachusetts, † March 6, 1805 in Boston, Massachusetts ) was an American politician. Between 1793 and 1795 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Peleg Coffin enjoyed a university education. Later he became president of the New England Marine Insurance Co. At the same time he began a political career. In the years 1783, 1784 and 1789 he was a member of the House of Representatives of Massachusetts; 1785-1802 he was several times in the State Senate. He was a supporter of the federal government under President George Washington (Pro - Administration Group ).

In the congressional elections of 1792 Coffin was elected in the then newly created tenth electoral district of Massachusetts in the time which meets even in Philadelphia U.S. House of Representatives, where he took up his new mandate on March 4, 1793. Until March 3, 1795 he was able to complete a term in Congress. From 1797 to 1802 Coffin was Finance Minister of the state of Massachusetts. He died on March 6, 1805 in Boston.
