Peliken have differently than normal amphorae a firm stand, their widest diameter was in the lower half of the vessel. The two-handled vessels had no lid. In general, the transition between the neck and the bulbous squat body is fluent in them. The mouth was quite breitwandig. For the first time Peliken were created at the end of the 6th century BC in the workshops of the so-called pioneer group of red-figure vase painting. With the Halspelike there is a rare special form of this Tonkruges. In this the neck is discontinued, so not fluent. Painted Peliken were used primarily during the Symposium. On image inscriptions they were called stamnos, but sat down this term in modern archeology for another vase shape by.
