Pellegrino Tibaldi

Pellegrino Tibaldi (* 1527 or 1532 in Puria ( today Valsolda ); † 1592 or May 27, 1596 in Milan ), actually Pellegrino di Tibaldo de ' Pellegrini was an Italian painter and architect.

As 1547 Tibaldi went to Rome to study the works of Michelangelo, the architecture was then a further focus in his art. Later, Cardinal Giovanni Poggi commissioned him to embellish his palace in Bologna. Tibaldi did this with a cycle of images which illustrated the adventures of Odysseus.

Through his decoration of the church of " St. James the Great " of the Augustinian Hermits (Bologna ), he earned the honorary title Michelangelo riformato. In the Trading Floor to Ancona he painted the the monster taming Hercules, now also delicate and graceful paintings in oil, usually figure rich, lively colored and decorated with architecture. Tibaldi 1562 by Cardinal Carlo Borromeo in Pavia was appointed to prepare the draft plan to the Palace della Sapienza. In Milan, he restored the archbishop's palace, and after completion of the construction of the Church of St.. He was there in 1570 Fidelis first architect of the cathedral and modernized as such, especially the interior thereof.

In 1586 he was appointed by Philip II to Madrid, to design a plan to Escorial, in which he also painted the ceiling fresco of the library. To the marquis of Valsolda appointed, the artist returned after nine years back to Milan. There he died between 60 and 70 years of age.

His son Domenico (1532-1583) also earned a name as an architect and painter.
