Pelletron

The Pelletron ( engl. pellet: pellet, tablet, pellet ) is a type of DC - particle accelerators. It resembles the van de Graaff accelerator, since the acceleration voltage is established also by mechanical transport of electrically charged body. However, the circumferential band of the insulating Van de Graaff generator is here replaced by a kind of chain, which consists of metallic conductive elements, alternating with insulating spacers. The charge reaches the metal body of the chain and of them on the high voltage electrode not by point discharge, but by influence.

The Pelletron was invented around 1965 by Raymond Herb, the company National Electrostatics Corporation founded to build this accelerator.
