The Pelorus Sound is a sunken valley in the Marlborough Sounds, New Zealand.

It is located near the northeast end of the South Island of New Zealand and is one of the longest inlets of New Zealand. It winds between steep wooded hills 35 km to the south. Its southern end is located near the town of Havelock, 30 km north- west of Blenheim. The Sound has several main branches, one of which Tennyson Inlet, Tawhitinui Reach and Kenepuru Sound are the most important.
