History
The name of the island group (as well as the main island Pelsaert Iceland ), which was discovered as early as the late 16th century, was established in honor of François Pelsaert, the commander of 1629 before the 10 km northern reefs of the Wallabi Islands sunken Dutch merchant ship Batavia. After beaching the Batavia Pelsaert sailed with a few sailors in a lifeboat simple way to Jakarta and later returned to the scene to rescue the survivors of the wreck. Due to a temporary bloody mutiny he found, however, in front of only a few survivors.
On June 9, 1727 stranded in Half Moon Reef Islands of Pelsaert another Dutch merchant ship, the " Zeewijk " with 208 man crew. Survivors of the wreck were able to save on Gun Iceland and 82 of them achieved with a home-built boat ( " Sloepie " ) on April 30, 1728 the original destination port of Batavia.
