Pelusium

Pelusium (Latin, Greek Πηλούσιον Pelousion; Arabic Tell el- Farama; ancient Egyptian Senu, Per Amun; Old Testament Sin; Coptic Peremoun; Aramaic Seyan ) is an ancient Egyptian town in the far east of the Nile Delta and is situated 30 km southeast of Port Said away.

History

Pelusium lay as Mündungsort of Pelusiac Nilarms, which in ancient times was the easternmost river in the Nile Delta, near the fortress of Sile. However, in the late eleventh century BC, the river began to silt up and shifted to the west. In the Bible Pelusium " Sin, the strength of Egypt " called ( Ez 30,15 EU).

By winning the Battle of Pelusium ( 525 BC) by abandoning the Egyptian army destroyed the Persian king Cambyses II then Tell el- Maschuta and captured later in Egypt. According to the later capture of Memphis, Cambyses II abolished the Egyptian pharaoh Psamtik III. in the ab regency.

55 BC Mark Antony conquered Pelusium. He acted as captains of the Roman proconsul of Syria, Aulus Gabinius, who for the return of the exiled Ptolemy XII. had agreed. Pelusium is at the present time the seat of a diocese in the Orthodox Church. The ruins of the ancient city are archeologically at the time of an Australian mission.
