Pema Tönyö Nyinje

Situ Pema Dönyö Nyinche Wangpo (also: Pema Donyo Nyinje or Pema Donyo Nyinche; Tib: pad ma si tu don byed dbang po yod nyin; * 1954 in Dege ) is the 12th Tai Situpa of the Karma Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism and highest abbot of Palpung congregation.

Life

Pema Dönyö Nyinche was enthroned at the age of eighteen months in the monastery in Derge Palpung by the 16th Karmapa as the 12th Tai Situpa. At the age of five he was taken to Tshurphu.

Due to the political situation in Tibet, he fled in 1959 after initially Bhutan and later moved to Sikkim, where he was fully formed at Rumtek Monastery by the 16th Karmapa until 1975. At the age of twenty-two years, he founded the monastery Palpung Sherab Ling in Himachal Pradesh, which became his headquarters in exile and housed in a separate temple relics of the 8th Tai Situpas since 2000.

As a Buddhist teacher, the 12th Tai Situpa embarked on several large international trips, where he gave teachings and empowerments. In 1981, he committed his first trip to Europe and in 1982 he visited America. The teachings given here have been published in nine books so far. In 1989, the 12th Tai Situ Rinpoche on a pilgrimage for world peace.

Together with the 12 Tshurphu Gyeltshab Rinpoche he acknowledged in 1992 Ugyen Thrinle Dorje as the 17th Karmapa and enthroned him in Tshurphu monastery. The 12th Tai Situpa is one of the main gurus of Ugyen Dorje Thrinle for the teaching of Mahamudra.
