Pen Cayetano

Delvin " Pen" Cayetano MBE (born 1954 in Dangriga in Belize ) is a Belizean artist and musician. He lived in Bad Neuenahr- Ahrweiler.

Biography

Cayetano comes from the Central American country of Belize, formerly British Honduras. He is a painter and self-taught as a musician. He is influenced by the local Garifuna culture and the culture of the Creoles of Belize. Together, they form the largest black populations in his home country.

Developed in 1981 Pen Cayetano Punta Rock which combines the Garifuna music with modern rock music. With his group " The Turtle Shell Band" performances led him through Belize, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and the United States. Today, Punta Rock is the most important genre in Belize.

In 1990 he moved to Germany, where he lives with his family in Ahrweiler ever since. Cayetano continued his musical and artistic work in his new home continued intensively. He perfected his efforts to portray the colorful and vivacious Garifuna culture. He also painted impressions of his new German home. Cayetano had been exhibitions in his native Belizean, the USA, Germany, Hong Kong, Switzerland and England.

Cayetano adheres to continue at least once a year in his native Belize, where he continues to participate in the current art and music developments. In 2003 he received the "Award for Creation and Master of Punta Rock" of the National Institute of Culture and History of Belize and the National Garifuna Council.

Since 2009, the artist and musician living again with his wife Ingrid Cayetano in Belize.
