Penco

Penco on the map of Chile

Penco is a city in Chile with 46016 inhabitants ( 2002). It is located in the agglomeration of Concepción Región del Bío -Bío. The area is 107.60 km ². The city is chaired by Guillermo Cáceres.

Penco was founded in 1550 as Concepción and 1570 almost completely destroyed by the earthquake in Concepcion. Concepción was later about 15 km inland rebuilt. 1842, the city was refounded as Penco "Villa de Penco ".
