Penelope Wensley

Penelope " Penny " Anne Wensley, AC ( born October 18, 1946 in Toowoomba, Australia) is the Governor of Queensland and a former Australian diplomat.

Life

She studied English and French literature at the University of Queensland. She joined in 1967 at the Diplomatic Service of Australia and worked in France, Mexico and New Zealand. From 1986 to 1988 she was Consul General in Hong Kong. In 1997 she became the first female Permanent Representative to the United Nations. 2001 and 2011 she received the Order of Australia for her services to the development of international relations. Since 2008 she has been Governor of Queensland.
