Penguin Books

Penguin Books, Penguin, Random House since 2013, is the world's largest trade book publisher for literature and nonfiction. The company is owned by the Bertelsmann Group and the Pearson PLC. The native to the United States part of the company trades under Penguin Group ( USA), Inc., the British parent company under the name of Penguin Books Ltd.. Sales in the first half of 2012 amounted to 441 million GBP.

Penguin to include as non-fiction division Dorling Kindersley Travel Guides and Rough Guides.

Penguin Books was founded in 1935 by the young publisher Allen Lane, who wanted to offer inexpensive pocket books, but their content quality should not suffer. On 30 July 1935, the first ten titles of the publisher appeared on the market:

Merger with Random House

Since 1 July 2013, the merger with Random House, a Bertelsmann subsidiary, legally approved and antitrust law. Thus, under the name Penguin Random House was the world's largest trade book publisher. Bertelsmann holds 53% and Pearson 47 % stake in the new publishing house.
