Peninsula Gas Utilisation

The Peninsular Gas Utilisation ( PGU) is 2,500 kilometers pipelines laid the longest pipeline network in Malaysia. Except for the run as a multi- product pipeline section Serdang Port Dickson - Malacca is a pure natural gas pipeline.

The 1,700 kilometer long main pipeline connecting the offshore natural gas fields and the Kerteh refinery in Terengganu with other regions of Peninsular Malaysia. PGU part of the operating company, Petronas Gas Berhad on, a 100 % subsidiary of Petronas.

History

The Peninsular Gas Utilisation project goes back to a study from 1981, which deals with the overall approach to supply Malaysia with natural gas.

The construction of the Peninsular Gas Utilisation was started in 1984. The main work was completed in 1993, currently the PGU project includes a total line length of 2500 km - divided into the actual PGU pipeline, supply lines and secondary lines. The overall system also includes six gas processing plants for the separation of ethane, propane, butane and condensate from the natural gas with a total capacity of 57 million standard cubic meters per day.

The construction of the pipeline network consisted of four phases:

  • Phase 1: Tok Arun - Kerteh
  • Phase 2: Section 1: Kerteh - Gebeng - Segamat
  • Section 2: Segamat - Johor Bahru - Pasir Gudang
  • Section 3: Segamat - Pedas - Serdang

Phase 1 - also called PGU I - was completed in 1984. It included the gas processing in Kerteh (GPP 1) with a capacity of 7 million standard cubic meters per day, the export terminal, a 32 -kilometer pipeline between GPP and Terminal, secondary lines to power plants and industrial areas on the east coast of Malaysia and a gas supply system for the town of Kerteh.

Phase 2 ( PGU II) was completed in 1991. Three additional gas processing facilities ( Gas Processing Plant GPP 2, 3 GPP and GPP 4 ) with 7 million each standard cubic meter capacity and the 685 km long main pipeline in the western and southern regions of Peninsular Malaysia to Singapore were added.

The final Phase 3 ( PGU III) has been in operation since 1998. The pipeline was extended by 450 km along the west coast to the Malaysian - Thai border. There were also two new gas processing plants GPP GPP 5 and 6 with a capacity of 14 million standard cubic meters.

In further Verluf the PGU system was extended by the projects Loop 1 and Loop 2, which supply security of the Klang Valley industrial area. By laying a 265 km long parallel line "Loop 1" to the existing pipeline, the throughput was increased by between Kertih Segamat 1999. A further 226 kilometers, " Loop 2 " were relocated from Segamat to Meru in 2000.

The multi- product pipeline completed as Phase 4 of Serdang to Port Dickson and Malacca can promote in addition to natural gas, other gases also.

Operating facilities

The pipeline is equipped with a sensor system for monitoring gas leaks. The control room for the operation and monitoring of the pipeline are in Pedas, Negeri Sembilan, Gebeng, Pahang, Johor Segamat and.

Connections to other pipelines

The Peninsular Gas Utilisation is connected to the Trans- Thailand - Malaysia pipeline (TTM ) in the north of the country.
