Geographical location

Old Mission Peninsula is the land arm, which divides the Grand Traverse Bay in Michigan, USA in the East Arm and West Arm. Capital is Mapleton. According to the 2000 census 5265 people lived on the peninsula.

The highest elevation is the Carpenter Hill in the south of the peninsula, 256 meters above sea level, or 80 feet above the level of Lake Michigan.

The climate on the peninsula is ideal for the cultivation of wine and so there are a number of excellent wineries. If you drive to the peninsula in the heyday of the cherry, you can admire 500,000 trees in full, white blooms.

The Old Mission Lighthouse is located at the tip of the island and is located directly on the 45th parallel, exactly halfway from the equator to the North Pole. There is still a historic Hessler Log Cabin to find.
