Penny Marshall

Penny Marshall ( * as Carole Penelope Masciarelli on 15 October 1942 in the Bronx in New York City ) is an American film director, film producer and actress. It is counted among the most successful directors in Hollywood.

Life and achievements

Marshall's father Anthony Wallace Marsciarelli was Italo American descent, her mother Marjorie Irene Ward had English and Scottish ancestors. Penny Marshall graduated from a private girls' school in New York and studied at the University of New Mexico. Her brother Garry is also a successful director.

First played in television series such as The Odd Couple, Friends and Lovers and Laverne & Shirley. A small supporting role she played in the movie 1941 - Which way leads to Hollywood (1979). In the film The Hard Way (1991 ) she played the agent of movie stars Nick Lang, Michael J. Fox played.

As a director Marshall debuted in some episodes of the TV series Laverne & Shirley, who produced her brother Garry Marshall. In the film Jumpin 'Jack Flash (1986 ) she worked with Whoopi Goldberg and Jonathan Pryce, in the film Big (1988 ) with Tom Hanks, in the film Awakenings (1990 ) with Robert De Niro and Robin Williams, the film A League of Own (1992 ) starring Geena Davis and repeated with Tom Hanks. In her film Mr. Bill (1994 ) played Danny DeVito, in the road with boys (2001) played Drew Barrymore and James Woods. She was the first director who has directed a movie with Big, which grossed over 100 million dollars in the cinemas of the United States.

Marshall produced films such as With Friends Like These ... (1998) with Adam Arkin, Laura San Giacomo and Beverly D' Angelo, The Comeback (2005) with Russell Crowe and Renée Zellweger or Bewitched (2005) with Nicole Kidman.

Marshall was married from 1961 to 1963 with Michael Henry, 1971-1979 by Rob Reiner. Her daughter, the actress Tracy Reiner, dates from the first marriage.
