Pentacosiomedimni

Pentakosiomedimnoi (plural of ancient Greek πεντακοσιομέδιμνος pentakosiomédimnos who earns at least five hundred medimni ') was in the phase of Athenian democracy of the ancient Athenian polis the name for the richest of four strata of the population was divided into census classes.

As a unit the annual income was based on cereals. Landless citizens who possessed a high otherwise related income could also be divided into these census class by equating a Medimnos with a drachma. From the classification into one of four classes, different rights and obligations arising. The Pentakosiomedimnoi had the right to be Archon, as well as the military service obligation as a rider. They could also gain the office of treasurer of Athena.

The mentioned classification of the population into four classes census took place in 594 BC by the constitutional reform of Solon. Since no adjustment to the economic development of Athens took place, the division had BC lost to social importance in the 4th century.

The other three census classes are Hippeis, Zeugiten and Theten.
