Pentafluoroethane is a gaseous organic chemical compound from the group of fluorinated hydrocarbons ( HFCs).
Production and representation
Pentafluoroethane may be produced by fluorination of 2,2-dichloro- 1 ,1,1-trifluoroethane with the aid of a catalyst.
Properties
Pentafluoroethane is a non-flammable gas, which is heavier than air and thus accumulates at the bottom. With 0.9 g / l, it is only slightly soluble in water.
Use
Pentafluoroethane place as deletion and as a refrigerant use.
Environment
Pentafluoroethane as a greenhouse gas is 3500 times more potent than CO2. However, in contrast to the chlorofluorocarbon substances it is not ozone depleting. In the Kyoto Protocol, it is named as " hydrogen-containing fluorocarbon " whose emissions must be reduced.
