Pentaho

Pentaho is a collection of business intelligence software, which is available in a basic open source. Pentaho was counted by InfoWorld among the ten most important open source projects in the business sector in 2007. It covers the usual areas of this ETL, Reporting, OLAP / Analysis and Data Mining. The software is developed entirely in Java.

The software has been developed since 2004 by the Pentaho Corporation.

Components

The software consists of several components: The reporting component emerged from the JFreeReport open source project. The OLAP / Analysis component is the open source project Mondrian (as of February 2007, of the Pentaho project). Pentaho Data Integration ( PDI) was under the name Kettle also an independent open source project. PDI is an ETL tool with connectivity to different databases. In addition, there are from the partner environment more plug -ins to various systems such as SAP ( ProERPconn ) or Navision ( NAVIX Table Output). Pentaho Data Mining emerged from the Weka project of the New Zealand University of Waikato. The Pentaho BI Platform is the front-end BI suite and is a development of Pentaho.

Versions

The Pentaho Open Source BI Suite is available in different versions. There is a free open source version with limited functionality. Various premium versions offer additional features.
