People's Artist of Russia

People's Artist of Russia (official People's Artist of the Russian Federation; Russian Народный артист Российской Федерации ) is a title of honor, which is awarded by the Russian state to individuals for outstanding service in one of the areas of the performing arts.

The honorary title exists, since December 1995, when he was officially introduced by presidential decree. Forms the current legal basis for the award of the title of the decree of 1995 and a further decree in September 2010, which stipulates the Russian system of government honorary titles and awards in the current version. In the performing arts ( including music, theater, ballet, cinematography, and others) applies " People's Artist of Russia", according to this system as the highest national honor. Pursuant to the decree of 1995, the honorary title " People's Artist of Russia" only awarded to artists who are already in the award of the Russian hierarchy lower placed honorary title " Honored Artist of Russia " hold, and not earlier than five years after the award of the latter.
