Peopleware

The term was coined by Peopleware, Tom DeMarco and Timothy R. Lister in her eponymous book published in 1987 (English title: Vienna waits for you ). Meanwhile, the term is also used generally to describe that there is in addition to the hardware and the software nor the people as an important component in the process of software development.

Peopleware by Ernest Wallmüller comprises two parts: on the one hand the working people in its various social roles as an individual, group member, supervisor and / or subordinate, on the other hand, the work environment conditions and the company's culture and philosophy.

In this case the man is considered in its various roles, is considered as well as the work environment conditions and company culture. It is these aspects are not completely separate from each other: the corporate culture is just as influenced by the people who work in a company like the working environment conditions. The other way round shape the work environment conditions and the corporate culture, in turn, the people who work in this company. Here is a reciprocal relationship before, on which every single human being can influence in the company, and is affected by every person in the company.

Core points of consideration of Peopleware and also desired goal of an appropriate management style is the improvement of four major sociological aspects, namely:

  • Leadership within the meaning of leadership
  • Appropriate design of the office environment
  • Selection of suitable employees
  • Promote team building

The German title refers to the refrain in the song Vienna by Billy Joel's album The Stranger. The statement here is that there is more than the work in life.
