Peoria Rivermen (AHL)

The Peoria Rivermen were an ice hockey team in the American Hockey League. They played in Peoria, Illinois, USA in Carver Arena. They were the farm team of the St. Louis Blues ( NHL) and possessed in the Evansville Icemen, who played in the ECHL, a private farm team.

History

Having already from 1984 to 1996 in the International Hockey League and from 1996 to 2005 in the ECHL teams under the name Peoria Rivermen acted, 2005, the AHL team the Worcester IceCats was moved to Peoria. As successors of the Springfield Indians (founded 1926) and the IceCats the Rivermen are thus the oldest existing franchise in the minor leagues. After the NHL teams in the Montreal Canadiens, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Boston Bruins, they are even the fourth oldest ice hockey franchise in North America.

In the first year of their AHL affiliation they reached the play-offs, although clearly, retired from there but already in the first round.
