Peoria Rivermen (IHL)

The Peoria Rivermen were an American ice hockey franchise in the International Hockey League from Peoria, Illinois. Their home stadium was the Carver Arena.

History

The Peoria Rivermen put 1984 the operation of the game in the IHL Peoria Prancer's gone. Already in the first season after the renaming of the season 1984/85, the Rivermen won the play-off finals and thus the Turner Cup, the championship of the IHL. After the club in the coming years once the play-offs could not reach and failed three times in the first round, the Rivermen in the 1990/91 season could win the Turner Cup again. In the play-off finals, the Rivermen defeated the Fort Wayne Komets 4-2 victories. This success was not repeated until 1996.

After the 1995/96 season, who completed the Rivermen with third place in the Midwest Division of the IHL, the team has been to San Antonio, Texas, relocated and took from now on under the name of San Antonio Dragons at play operation of the IHL in part. The tradition of the Peoria Rivermen was eventually continued in the same year by a team of the same name from the East Coast Hockey League.
