Perchloryl ( FClO3 ) is a colorless, poisonous gas with an unpleasant odor, which is easily condensable ( boiling point of approximately -47 ° C). Chemically, it is the acid fluoride of perchloric acid. The chlorine is present in its highest oxidation state VII.

Production

Perchloryl fluoride can be obtained by fluorination of fluorosulfonic acid with potassium fluoride in the antimony pentafluoride at -20 ° C or by the reaction of potassium perchlorate. Also it can be produced by reaction of solid alkali metal fluorides (especially CsF ) with Dichlorheptoxid ( Cl2O7 ).

It is also possible the representation is obtained by reaction of potassium perchlorate with fluorosulphonic.

Properties

Perchloryl is resistant up to 400 ° C. It has a strongly oxidizing ( oxidizing) and reacts, especially when heated, violently with reducing agents. Many coating materials, plastics and rubber are attacked. With water it reacts only sluggishly, depending on the pH of perchloric and hydrofluoric acid.

The connection is suitable for the synthesis of (mostly explosive ) organic derivatives of perchloric acid. So can thus be prepared by the reaction with alcoholates Perchlorsäureester; with phenyllithium ( C6H5Li ) obtained Perchlorylbenzol C6H5ClO3. With ammonia and amines to Perchlorylamide R ( R ') can form N- ClO3 that act at acidic unsubstituted NH bonds.

Safety

In guinea pigs, resulted in the inhalation administration of 220 mg · m -3 perchloryl to fibrosis of the lungs and connective tissue in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, as well as reduction in the number of erythrocytes and generation of methemoglobin in the blood.
