Percussion instrument

A percussion instrument is a musical instrument that is excited by directly hitting the vibration, thus producing a sound, tone or sound. The group of percussion instruments include Idiophone (self Klinger ) and the group of drums ( Membranophones ) in which the toner Reger are taut membrane. Percussion instruments can also be simultaneously Membranophone and Idiophone, such as the tambourine.

The more noise-like instruments are mainly used as a rhythm instrument, those which can also produce pitches (such as glockenspiel, xylophone, vibraphone, celesta, piano) are also used as a melody instrument or harmony as musical instrument.

To generate the number of materials and shapes with the ability noises or sounds is endless, and the sound generation as old as mankind, as clapping hands can already be used as drums. The list of percussion instruments shows typical examples, drums, timpani and drum are often referred to as rhythmic main instruments.

Pitch and tone color can be varied by changing the membrane stress also in drums. One therefore distinguishes percussion instruments with definable pitch such as timpani, xylophone and vibraphone and those that produce a less definable spectrum of sound (noise ) as snare drum, cymbals and castanets. Due to the nature of sound production ( strike ), you can also include the piano to percussion instruments. A special case is the Indian tabla, which produces both melodic and unmelodiöse sounds.

For different music in each different percussion instruments are combined to form a group that often gets its own name.

Drums

The drum kit is a combination of different percussion instruments. In the standard configuration, it consists of five different drums and four cymbals that are played sitting down with different kinds of sticks, jazz broom or Filzschlegeln and pedals.

In the various music styles one finds various configurations of the drums. While the Jazz usually smaller drums are used, can be found in rock and pop music, through which the drum set was very well known, often larger sets, with two bass drums ( double bass ), with a correspondingly wider range of drums, cymbals and percussion elements.

Striking mechanism

Under percussion refers to the percussion instruments used in the orchestra. The drum, the bass drum, snare drum and the cymbals are well known.

Percussion

Percussion is a very broad term for rather small percussion instruments. Occasionally, percussion instruments are commonly referred to as percussion, but this is wrong. Known percussion instruments are: washboard, maracas, Eggshaker, conga, cowbell and claves, mostly from the African or South America.

In addition to the percussion also include some non- percussion instruments such as the whistle in Samba.

Although the playing of percussion instruments looks sometimes be very simple, but most require sophisticated technology to deploy the full sound.

Still do not see nearly all instrument manufacturers in particular the small percussion instruments as full instruments, since they are not purchased as often and with them compared to larger rhythm instruments ( Surdo, congas ), etc. is not very much money is. This has the consequence that in the small percussion area itself known manufacturers often sell low quality instruments.

Mallets

Mallets, mallet instruments also (of English. Mallet mallets = ) called, are tuned Idiophone. They are played with up to four mallets with a core of cork, wood, metal or plastic that is wrapped in some with thread. The range is for larger instruments near the piano, also provides for the arrangement of the plates like a keyboard. The mallets are often used in orchestras as a solo or accompanying voices.
