Percy Mayfield

Percy Mayfield ( born August 12, 1920 in Minden, Louisiana; † August 11, 1984 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American rhythm and blues singer and songwriter.

Percy Mayfield began his musical career in Texas, but moved during the Second World War to California. In 1947 he makes his first recording Two Years Of Torture.

Became known to a wide audience Percy Mayfield in 1950 by his number 1 hit single Please Send Me Someone To Love. In 1952 he had a serious car accident in which his face was disfigured. Yet he continued to write many successful songs, such as the classic Hit the Road Jack and At The Club for Ray Charles.

1987 Percy Mayfield was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame.
