Pere Gimferrer

Pere Gimferrer i Torrens ( born June 22, 1945 in Barcelona) is a Catalan writer in Catalan and Spanish. As a poet, essayist and translator, he is one of the most influential Catalan and Spanish authors of the present.

Life and work

Pere Gimferrer occurred in the 1960s, emerged as one of the leading representatives of the novísimos with poems in Spanish. Since 1971, his Catalan poetry appears. With regular articles for newspapers, literary essays, artist monographs, as well as program director of the prestigious publishing house Seix Barral (Barcelona ) as well as a renowned filmmaker Gimferrer has always been renowned as one of the most respected literary figures of Catalonia.

His poems are complex linguistic structures in which overlap the immediacy of sense experience and the theoretical discussion of the possibilities of their placement and mutually dependent. Gimferrers polyphonic, allusive poetry is an attempt to bridge the gap between subject and object by the poetic act. In his essays and monographs he observed critically the cultural events of the past decades and the role of intellectuals in society.
