Perevalsk

Perewalsk (Ukrainian Перевальськ; Russian Перевальск / Perewalsk ) is a city in the Luhansk Oblast in eastern Ukraine. It has 25,137 inhabitants (2013 ) and is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons 45 km southwest of Oblastzentrum Luhansk. The city is located in the densely populated and industrially defined Donets Basin and directly adjacent to the city Alchevsk.

History

Perewalsk 1889 Founded as a mining site named Selesnwski Rudnik. From 1924 he was named imeni Paryskoji Komuny ( імені Паризької Комуни ) in honor of the Paris Commune, the unwieldy name was shortened in Parkommuna 1938. 1964 was the place its present name and status as a city. After the founding of the Rajons 1965, the city was then Rajonzentrum. The word Pereval means " pass " or "transition".

Perewalsk is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons. The Rajon Perewalsk lies in the southwestern part of the Luhansk Oblast and has 71 972 inhabitants ( September 2012 ). The area is 807 km ² and the population density of 108 inhabitants per km ².
