Pergine Valdarno

Pergine Valdarno is a municipality with 3204 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Arezzo, in Tuscany region of Italy.

Geography

The municipality extends over some 47 km ². It is located about 15 km west of Arezzo and 50 km southeast of Florence the Arno river ( Valdarno) in the climatic classification of Italian communities in the zone E, 2188 GR / G.

The districts include Mont Alto ( 251 meters altitude, about 950 inhabitants), Pieve a Presciano (323 meters altitude, about 300 inhabitants), Poggio Bagnoli (304 meters altitude, about 100 inhabitants) and Cavi - Casalone (as part of Ponticino, the also belongs to Laterina, 262 altitude meters, about 500 inhabitants).

The neighboring municipalities are Bucine, Civitella in Val di Chiana, Laterina, Montevarchi and Terra Bracciolini.

History

First mentioned in writing the place with castle and church (San Michele ) is in August 1056. Afterwards the place came into the sphere of influence of the abbey Abbazia di Santa Maria di Agnano (also called Badia Agnano, approximately 6 km south-west, now the town Bucine ) what was on January 13, 1154 confirmed by Pope Anastasius IV.
