Pericopes of Henry II

The Egberti Henry II is a work of Ottonian book illumination and is one of the major works of this period. The Egberti ( Evangelistar ) was probably made in 1007-1012 in the monastery of Reichenau on behalf of Henry II for the Bamberg Cathedral on the occasion of its consecration. It belongs to the so-called Liuthar group. The parchment manuscript contains 206 leaves in the format 42,5 x 32 cm. The book decoration consists of 28 full-page miniatures, 10 decorative pages and 184 large initials. The cover is decorated with a gold-framed front Carolingian ivory carving of the Crucifixion.

In the course of secularization in 1803 the Codex from the Bamberger Dom entered the Bavarian State Library in Munich, where he is now kept under the signature Clm 4452. Together with nine other works of the Reichenau School, the manuscript was taken in 2003 by the UNESCO list of world cultural heritage list.

Among the Reichenau manuscripts he is the Munich Gospel Book of Otto III. , The Wolfenbütteler Egberti and the Hildesheim Orationale the next.
